Default Re-powdercoating question

I have very little hands on experience with powder coating but now have all the Eastman tools and supplies to get started with this Fall on project.

Always wondered what happens if you have to modify an already powder coated piece by grinding or welding. And then you want to "re-coat" with powder coat that area to match original finish?

Anybody?

Thanks

electrostaticly applied media, then baked with high heat. you cant just patch it and expect to not see any difference, sand or blast entire piece and re coat, otherwise you will spend far more time fixing the spot then would take to re do the entire thing.

issue is the re heating, if you have ever welded on/near a powdercoat you will see the color rings in the coating, also, do not try the chem strip Benco B17 or similar, the parts will rust during the process and you will end up sanding it anyway, sanding the powdercoat is fairly easy, if its a wheel rim or similar a sandblaster is the way to go, good ones can be rented at most tool rental shops if you don't have a compressor.

I have small shop out back which includes several size sandblasters, an upright 60 gal air compressor, Mig welder 220v and the Eastman powdercoater.
Mainly looking at rewelding some tabs on full size chevy lower a-arms to use for the vette. Need to flip them and change the sway bar connections. The a-arms are tubular and powdercoated already.
But was inquiring in general as I could not find any answer elsewhere.
Thanks again
Dennis
