I am wanting to get an older trans crossmember for my 1980 l48. I found one from a 1977, will this bolt up to my 1980. I'm trying to gain the exhaust pass thru the older c3's had to try to get my exhaust tucked under a little better. thanks. Gil
The pass through crossmember is pretty nifty, but anytime you want to do anything you will have to cut or unbolt parts. I looked into cutting a notch in my existing crossmember, and I almost pushed the button on one of these: https://crossmembers.com/product-cat...body-corvette/
But I'll probably just go with sidepipe headers instead for my 80.
I made this cross member back in the 80's and it is still working fine today. It keeps heat away from your transmission and it simplifies installing the exhaust. I have a cross H pipe. Each side has two hangers and the three header flange bolts and I can take off my exhaust in under 10 minutes. Really handy Like when I did a new rear end about a month ago.
Side pipes are not a tuned exhaust header. Actually they are junky all show and no go!
I have no idea if it will work on a 1980, but I've got a stock cross through trans cross member sitting in a shed outside of Valparaiso, Indiana that you could have for a song. 2 Hours and 36 minute drive with current traffic.
(I did a 4L60e trans swap and went with an arched BowTie overdrives cross member.)
