Hi, guys, does anyone know if painting the needles on the small gauges would mess up the calibration, I have been told that the paint would add weight to the needle and therefore needs to be recalibrated, any truth do this or am I better off replacing the needle rather than painting them?

They're not that sensitive - please avoid those people going forward with your restoration - they just want to see you needlessly spend money.
Paint them with Testors orange fluorescent (hobby lobby, michael's, local hobby store for <$2)
They'll look very original and will light up nicely under the dash lights.
If you're not going to remove the needles you can make your life easier by simply cutting a slit in a sheet of paper and pushing the paper beneath the needles to prevent getting paint on the actual gauge.
And....be VERY CAREFUL NOT to even think about touching the greenish/glow paint for the numbers/letters/symbols on the gauge face.

Ditto. These gauges are not that accurate anyway. You don't really use them for 'accuracy'; you monitor them for any unusual 'change' in the value from what you see normally.
Weight of any added paint would have a negligible effect.
