Default mirrors for c3 restomod ?

Hi
I´m having a C3 restomod build. I want the exterior of the car to look as close to stock 69 as possible. A few exceptions. The hood will be a 75 to allow for a change of the wipersystem from vacuum to electric and avoid the wipercover. The old outside mirrors are nice looking but is in my opinion a nuisance in daily use. I know that many use the C6 mirror, when rebuilding a C3, but I think they cosmetically are unacceptable when applied to the C3, look like Plutos ears in strong wind. I might use the 1980 C3 mirror. Does anyone know if they can be electrically powered? Any other suggestions in choice of mirrors? Regards from Denmark

I thought long and hard about this when I built my 75 restomod. In the end I kept the single mirror and bought a new-old-stock unit. Once adjusted properly it works great and I think looks just right.

What do do you find a nuisance about the stock set up ?

I too looked at doing something different on my restomod as well...

However ended up keeping the stock mirrors - but added a new technology touch-

On the left w/o the mirror - right is behind the mirror

I drove a 69 427 big block for about ten years and the vibrations always seemed to change the position of the mirrors, which had to be adjusted all the time. But they do look nice

The 82 was the one and only year for factory power mirrors. The Joy stick controller is very hard to find and the few who do have them are very aware of this and are proud of them. Cadillac's used the same part. However other controllers work fine. I agree that the C5-6 Mirrors do not add to a factory stock body especially a chrome bumper car. However with Flares and Spoilers and Hoods I think they look quite natural.

You might consider the 80-2 Long Hood its shape is much more similar the factory chrome bumper cars with a small block. Keep in mind the 82's had an air box that was for the Fuel Injection and probably won't do You any good.

You clearly are a man of good taste. I've posted this pic of my sport mirror a bit lately. I have the manual toggles inside, I had to cut a hole in my comfort weave panels to mount it. And it is a bit tricky to get a good substantial connection to the door for the mirror body. You must also have the angled rubber gasket to get the mirror set right on the car. My comment is simply why would you want electrically controlled mirrors? While you have to be a bit careful to mount the manual cable so it doesn't interfere with the window mechanism, once the mirrors are set properly for good rearward vision, you never have to move them again. Possibly only if you have multiple drivers would you want to keep readjusting and that I would understand.

Pluto ears, good one,

i like late model mirrors on the classic c3 as much as i like big diameter positive offset wheels...

While not to the tastes of very many i really love the look of old bullet racing mirrors on the 68 to 73 c3s,
In my mind they help accent my lemans flip gas cap,

I have a new stainless set waiting in the box,

They look like this,

mirror

Hi Gale
Thanks for your answer. I did consider the 80 long hood and haven´t made a definitive decision yet. I tend to vote for the 75 hood, think it gives the front a more aggressive look, which blend nicely in with the 69 design. Would actually have preferred the original big block 69 hood with the chrome lining, but would not work with the change of wiper system without an extensive reshaping of the hood. Regards Boe

Thanks for your answer. The bullit mirror look very nice and might work with the 69 design. I will try to find pics. Regards Boe

Liking those bullet type mirrors, fits the era. Are they tall enough to see over the rear 1/4?

Little off topic but love the wink panel rear views. No blind spots!

Thank you. Nice looking mirror! I think you are right. I will be the only driver of the car and powered mirrors might complicate things unnecessarilly. Regards Boe
