68 antenna problem

68 antenna problem
I am using all of the standard parts shown below for my antenna mount on the left rear fender on my 68 convertible. The problem is when the cable is pulled through the fender there are very few threads available to screw the antenna nut onto.The size of the antenna ground plate makes it very tough...the nut only catches on a couple of threads and then vibrates off after a few miles. Does anyone have a tip that will provide more threads from the antenna cable to extend beyond the fender wall?

Getting the grounding plate correctly positioned so the tab on the chrome bezel can index into it is a must. I generally can get a few threads to start and then tighten it up with a wrench further and have never had a problem of it backing off and coming apart.
