Default Front Differential Mount Question

1974 Coupe, 4 speed
While attending to the parking brake cables I observed the front differential bushings to be worn and in need of replacing. In reference to the rear of the mount shown in the diagram, the bolts are secured with castle nuts and cotter pinned. Is the mount designed to have movement at the rear of the bracket? My bolts are tight but the mount has movement. My perception is that this is a pivot point for the mount to allow the front snubber to act?

Thanks,
Eddy

Thanks for the reply.
The bolts are tight and castle nut securely pinned, I am not sure of the exact amount of play but there is perceptible movement between bracket and bolts.

Are you referring to the snubber bracket on differential with the two pinned bolts going through? If so, there should not be movement between the bracket and diff. There should be flex between the bracket and the frame at the bushing.

Yes, there is significant movement of the bracket at the bolt holes. Should I just remove the nuts and re torque the bolts after installing new bushings?

Your bracket must be bent. It' should be snug.

It's not bent, just loose. I suppose I will just tighten and re torque to the 55-75 lbs ft the AIM specifies when replacing the bushings.
Thanks

It could have been left loose by Bubba? I have already found evidence of him in the parking brakes

Due to this bracket being loose. I would CLOSELY look at it and make sure the holes where the bolts pass through it have not be enlarged due to wear. Or the bolts themselves are worn.

As stated,,,this bracket should NOT move.

I will inspect the bracket and bolts closely and report back with my findings.
Thanks for you reply.

DUB, there is slight elongation of the bolt holes in the bracket and wear on the bolts. I believe new parts are in order.

The bolts were definitely not torqued to the factory service manual specs of 65 lbs ft.

Follow up to differential front mount issues.
I received the new bracket and bolt kit in addition to the previously ordered front bushing. The failure in reference to the bracket is certainly due to the bolts not being properly tightened and torqued wherein the bracket was allowed to flex and move around. Though the nuts were cotter pinned they were barely tight, almost no effort at all to loosen. I have now replaced the bracket, bushings and all new bolts properly torqued per AIM and factory service manual specs. The bolts show significant wear and polishing due to the movement, bracket holes are also oversized.
I was able to replace all parts with the car on jack stands no problem. Even for an old dude! Thanks to all for the help.

Glad to read that you took the time to inspect parts and get what you needed and installed for a proper repair.

A 'stupid' repair like this could have been totally avoided of the previous person TOOK THE TIME to do it correctly when the bracket and bolts were removed. So many people are in a hurry to 'just get it done' and do not do any homework on those things they actually do not know about.
