I need to know for sure what is the best type of fluid to put in our C3 Power steering system. When I originaly drained mine, it looked to be Tranny fluid. I had a guy at the part store say that Power steering fluid would work better. Any thought or personal experiances?
Jim Shea of this forum recommended to me to use the GM power steering fluid. He told me that it was specifically made for the Saginaw (sp?) pumps that came on the C3. Its still available because I bought a couple of quarts a couple of weeks ago. Hope this helps. :yesnod:
Thanks for the information. I drained my fluid when I removed my control valve to rebuild it. (Disconnected the hoses) The rebuild failed, and it leaks like a cheap trailer. I have a rebuilt control valve on order from Zip. :smash: :smash: :smash:
I guess I forgot to mention that all of the fluid seems to come out when you take the hoses off. Drip, Drip, Drip. :smash:  :smash:
32 oz of GM power steering fluid is part number 1050017 and is available from any GM dealer. "An amber colored , light bodied mineral oil that contains a specially developed additive package to provide good performance in power steering systems. It also helps in reducing power steering noise. Especially formulated to provide anti-corrosive and non-foaming qualities with excellent lubrication for year round use."
