Default Plug wire recommendations

I’m trying to diagnose an issue with my 69 427 rough idle. I believe it is an electrical issue and plan to start by replacing the wires.

What brand of wires do you recommend?

I like the taylor spiro-pro 8mm for the street
but I'm not sure there's much difference between any of the higer quality wires (MSD, ACCEL, etc)

I am currently running the oem style steel braided wires. Love the look but I’ve had issues with them popping off the plugs. They are straight boots and it is difficult to feel them snap on the plug.

Summit brand, or Bluepoint from the auto parts store. Tried the expensive stuff, maybe some brands take el scorcho temps better (dont have that issue) but runs the exact same.

MSD cut-to fit Super conductors 8.5mm

prefab never fits, so I just make my own, copper core, never had an issue with them!

Anyone else with recommendations on a wire set that will fit a 69 427? I’d rather not mess with the cut to fit if I don’t have to.

Headers? or stock manifolds? I have headers and Accel Ceramic boot wires. No more burned boots.

I put the ceramic boot wires on with a just a touch of dielectric grease inside the boot. Lets it slide over the plug and you can really feel the terminal snap onto the plug. I had a couple of different wire sets and they always seemed to have a couple that just wouldn't stay on the plugs. I even tried to tighten the plug terminal and still couldn't get them to stay on. Even with stock manifolds, the heat is still a factor. Straight ceramic boot wires might cure it all for you.

if you cut the wires to fit for the first time take extra time on each end and use a ohm meter before and after installing the boot and lightly pulling/twisting the ends if the resistance changes under stress its not fitting correctly.

i used the vice crimping tool and it worked fine. Just a little slow. Cant beat the fit and if you screw up, just make another one.

Yep- not ridiculously expensive and the boots do not slip around- nice tight fit. I used dish-washing detergent to slide them on.

Yep- well worth the $35 for the Summit Branded crimpers!!!

A nice sharp razor blade-palmolive dishwashing soap- an electrical wire numbering set (painters tape will work)- a sparkplug to make sure you get the boot placement correct and it's really easy.

I also ended up using the Lava boot covers- and since I am using LS coils mounted on the firewall- I prettied up the wire with a PET braided sleeving and a short piece of heat shrink

Same with their heat sleeves. If they fit, the factory heat shields really work, keep them if you can.
