1 to 1 4th gear and the .82 5th gear.
Between 4th and 5th I will only see a 450 rpm difference.
I'll go in 0,64 5th gear, 450 rpm are too few for what I'm looking for, very low rpm on the highway. In Italy we have 130 kmh speed limit everywhere on highway, it means ca. 80 mph; and it means that you don't have fines until 85 mph… with the 0,64 and 3.70 final I should be around 2700 rpm at 85 mph. With 0.82 I would be at 3500 rpm, too much...

That is why I'm going with a 3.08 or maybe 3.36 rear gear.
I can cruise at 80 all day and only turn 2492 rpm's.
I will be running a 496 big block which will have plenty of torque and I not care about 1/4 mile et's.

You don't need a big block as well. I have a ZZ383 with 3.08 Rear gears. 1800 RPM = 73 MPH = 27.4 MPG (Canada). What not to luv about that,
and it still makes a great track day car.

Even with a BB Id use the .8 the stock one is just too tall. Even with 4.11s and a 26 in tire its useless unless I feel like running 10-20 over the speed limit .
5 spd is plenty If its camed up you dont want it cruising at too low of an rpm believe me.

With the 0.82, 3.08 rear gears and 27" tall tires, I'll be at 2181 rpm's at 70 mph in 5th.
The operating range for my cam is 2000 to 6000 rpm's.

I just ordered the SST TKO600 kit for my 79, and I have a few questions for the few of you that said you did a 79, auto to TKO600 convert.

What were some of the things that you had to get that aren't in the kit. I know the radiator line plug, and carburetor vacuum plug are a few but I read in one place that the original starter wont work in the bellhousing that SST provides? Also I was told by SST that with the new relocated shifter I wouldn't need to cut anything from the trans tunnel? but a few of you are saying you did have to is that right?
