A *Headlamp And Wiper Door Vacuum Actuator Relay* was causing me complete havoc even getting my '74 to run right. I gave up and sent this thing off on a flatbed to a mechanic shop and they figured it out within an hour. I had one headlight that would not raise at all at that time and changing out that actuator fixed both problems. Go figure it that then the other side was slow in opening/closing compared to the fixed side. The other side was also replaced and for the first time since 1989 there is a red roadster that will be on the streets on the weekends. Some in this forum have information about rebuilding the things...
This is an older pic after the car was delivered out of Canada. I went back with rally rims & new T/A's.
Hey man , where have you been?
Anyway, sounds like vacuum trouble. I was having the same sort of problem. I removed one of my Actuator relays and found a pin hole in the top. This was causing my leak which made the lights work funky.
Dont tell anyone but I filled the tiny hole with some JB Weld :bb
Works like new now.
Re: Lazy right eye....Headlight talk (Stewart's74)
Thanks guys, I'll dig out the vacuum guage and start the shearch.
Stewart's74-I'm back. Started a new job and haven't had to much spare time to enjoy my favorite hobby. Still need to relocate and sell my old home, so lots to do this winter. Thanks again for asking.
At least with only one side affected you can narrow down the vacuum paths to search.
Make sure you check the actuator seal (a very common problem).
Also, if you can't find anything else, make sure you look over the actuator carefully. That's where my problem was; a pinhole in the actuator itself. I Bubba'd it and just soldered the hole and painted over it. It's held up very well (3 or 5 years now), but it's starting to respond slowly again, so I'm thinking I'll be looking for a new actuator someday.
Good Luck. I hope it's something simple and not too hard to find.
