I've seen some guys heat up the lock and then take a chisel and put it inside the keyway and tap it right off. Makes you wonder if McGards are more visual security than real security.
My parts car that I am buying has wheel locks on it but I have not seen the wheel lock socket. How do I get these off?
This is a big problem as the calipers are seized and need to be removed before I can move it!?!?!?!?!
If all else fails, they make a tool to take these off. I don't recall where you get one, but the local tire shops use them to remove the locks. I have seen them charge around here $8 to remove each locking lug. The reason why it is so expensive, is the tool can only be used 4 or 5 times before it becomes useless.
try a 13/16 sparkplug socket and a sledge hammer. Hammer the socket over the lugs and twist off. Use of heat is helpful too. You will probably need 2 or 3 sockets to do all 20
A 15/16 12 point socket is the size I found that fits snugly over most McGard wheel locks.
If you overtighten the other lugs on the wheel first this will compress the wheel flange and make it easier to remove the locks. Good luck.
I think I am going to try the vise grips and if that sdoesn't work I'll weld a nut it them.
I am going to bring a generator there to power my air compressor when I go there to pull everything off of it so I'll just take my welder too.
I don't know why I didn't think of the nut welded on because I have done that to a friends jeeps sway bar bolt( they are a carriage type bolt so you can't get them tight enough sometimes.
