I want to replace the headlight bezel on my 78 which requires removing
the ****/shaft. Does the ****/shaft just pull out of the switch or is there
a release mechanism. I don't want to have to remove the whole switch but I don't want to damage it trying to "pull" the **** out. Help!!!
PrarieShark is right, there's a small button/pin on the switch. If I remember correctly it's close to the dash on top of the switch as mounted. Disconnect the battery or your lights will be on the whole time and that switch gets hot pretty fast. Pull the switch to the on postition and press that button and the rod will come out easy. The tuff part will be finding that button with the dash all together. I did mine when I had the speedo/tach cluster out, it was easy then.
You do have to venture behind the dash to do this. You have to have access to the area where the two vacuum hoses attach to the switch. Next to the two hoses is a little spring loaded button. Pushing in on the button will allow you to pull the **** and rod out of the switch.
When I re-did my interior I bought a new switch. I hooked it up and tested but after putting the interior back together it did not pop the lights up. :mad Tried getting my hand down in there with just the top dash pad off and no go. :cry Have just used the bypass ever since. :)
