how could i find out if it is a pace car ? i was told there was 2 tone paint before the car was striped of it . also were all 78 vettes anniversary editions ? i ran the vin and all i could come up with was this : Division (1): Chevrolet
Car Line (Z): Corvette
Body Style (87): Two-Door Coupe
Engine Type (L): L48-350ci,175hp,185hp
Model Year (8): 1978
Plant (S): St. Louis, MO
You can tell the pacecars apart by the 9 in the Vincode. and you can tell the number in the run by the last 4. Mine is #4341 out of 6502.
Going by the VIN that you gave me just a little bit ago yours is not.
Im sorry I couldnt talk through IM, but im at work and I could get in trouble. Thanks, Mike
thanks , it is a 4 ( standard) , which is what i figured because i imagine that the pace car was an l82 where this is an l48 . so whats the difference concerning 2 tone paint ? was it just an option ?
The pacecar had both the l-48 and the L-82, along with autos and mauals in both. The paint is a 2 tone black on top silver on the bottom with a red stripe seperating the 2. the seats are also different from all other 78's. they got the "new" split back seats that are ALOT more comfortable. and the silver treatment on the interior, along with the mirrored T-Tops, they also came with polished aluminum rims that looked alot better, and the front and rear spoilers.
You could also get a 1978 "Silver Anniversary Edition" Corvette which was a 2 tone paint job, B2Z option. All 78s were 25th anniversary cars. It was Silver on top and Charcol silver on the bottom. It also came with sport mirrors and some other options. Really good looking cars. If you look on the trim tag it will have 13U/07m under paint.

The B2Z Corvettes all share the standard VIN numbering, too. The Silver Anniversary edition was just a paint/stripe option on a standard Corvette, however it did require the aluminum wheels and the sport mirrors with it. The Pace Car was actually called the Limited Edition, a separate model with its own spcific VIN identification. All Limited Editions had a plate on the console stating ther number, and all had silver interiors, either in leather or cloth.
