Thanks,
I found the service invoice from the diff overhaul. It was done in june -72, 20650 on the speedo, all gears, springs and plates was replaced.
3.36 was std for L46 and 3.55 perf option, right?
I measured the endplay and it is .010 and .030, is this critical?
There were several gear ratios available, I don't know off hand what combos were set up with the various engines. Base automatics got 308, base 4 speeds got 336.
The endplay you have isn't too bad for a stock setup. You can remove the axles and check them from the face to the snap ring, should be190-200" for original axles, check the faces for hardness. The 010 is good the 030 is loose but most likely it's in the posi setup.

I removed the axles and measured, it was 190 and 194. I tested to switch the axles and then the endplay was 015 and 020. Can i keep it this way or do you recommend to switch back?
190-194 is better then NEW or REBUILT axles. I just built a diff that the customer has sent me new GM licensed axles. They were 184 185 and SOFT. They would have lasted about 5,000 miles before the endplay hit 030-040" and continue to wear. My point is keep your axles but I would have the face hardness checked.
You can use them in the ranges listed, they will work. To get them in the 005-007 range you will have to work on the posi and tune it better then it is. If you have it apart and want to go into tuning a posi look up my old threads. I have trained guys worldwide on tuning a posi, you might need to access a surface grinder.
