1972 big block. Reinstalled hood after resto and leading edge sits 1/8 - 1/4” too high. All gaps are good and hood is flush with rear portion of fenders and trailing edge. Height of hinge mounts is fixed. Any ideas on how to lower leading edge? Thx, Bob

Do '72s have the little rubber hood alignment cushions in the fender troughs? Maybe installed incorrectly? As I recall, the cushion is not square but rectangular. So they could be glued on 90* off maybe.
The spacers may help....You can also shim the back of the hinge holes to tilt the front pivot point down. Make sure the brace in the front is not bent. All these issues have been addressed in full here on the forum, you just have to search for them. Even with trying all these I still had to add a adjustable brace to get mine close, but mine was more like 1/2" off and I only got it to within 1/8" to 1/4".
Be best to take a few pictures from different angles so we can see what you see. We could probably give you some answers.

I AGREE. Without GOOD photos of you what are seeing it does us little good to advise you.
Is the hood flush on the sides where the hood hinges are located???
And if I read what you wrote correctly...you are concerned about how the hood is now higher at the front gap where the hood meets the top hood surround at your headlight area???
Get down on one knee and take a photo straight on so we can see how much higher the hood is in relation to the top surface of the top hood surround.
YES...the rod that is located in the center of the very end of the top hood surround just behind the bumper runs to the radiator support is what GM used to provide that area support. GM changed that rod location and moved to to a much better spot. to provide the top hood surround support at the hood gap area
Also...like mentioned by 'CAMS69'. Getting the outer bumper supports and that rod I just mentioned in conjunction with the front cross member that the radiator support sits on correctly set and adjusted an take some of this height difference out.
I also have fabricated a rod that is adjustable to be able to raise this area of the top hood surround to correct the problem if the car is not worrying about being judged.
