But the SOUND that the engine makes when the exhaust runs up the intake and into the plenum is SO worth it, right?
Adam
LOL, yes it does sound good. But.... while i still have ALOT to learn, i now know that Less is more. Definitely were much wiser choices i could have made.
I went With the hyperspark setup.. still installing it as of now. But the wiring is super easy. And I sold my msd setup for $350 and got the hyperspark for just over $400. The key is to wait for a coupon from eBay and buy it there. It will save you about $100.
What do you need for complete hyperspark setup? Distributor, coil and also CD box?
My Hyperspark setup should be here today or tomorrow. One thing I understand is not included is a Coil wire ! So you'll need to plan that for a complete install!

Thanks for the info. When you install the Hyperspark, let us know how it goes.
I have all the parts in my garage (tank, throttle body, coil, box, hoses, distributor and beer) ready to install the weekend of Oct 20th once I get back from a business trip to Singapore.
Hopefully we will get a few sunny days here in Seattle to take it out to learn afterwards!
That looks like a good fit. As mentioned, not much room under the hoods. Where did you end up putting the Hyperspark module itself ?
I mounted it on the driver side firewall in the fender. You can drill some holes and are able to reach in there to tighten the nuts from the wiper compartment. I did Have to get longer screws though. I trying To decide where I’m going to mount the relays and extra fuse box... might be right under the module.
Well, due to the excitement, i didnt document my install, but wanted to provide some feedback for those still on the fence, AND ask a question for those who have already done this.
I had been collecting parts to do this install for several months now and decided to tackle the entire thing at once.
So,
New gas tank. I Went with the Holley master system with external fuel pump. With the new tank install, i changed the return line to match the pickup line to 3/8" and at the same time installed a Holley Hydromat on the pickup. (Great setup!)
New intake manifold. I needed to replace my intake manifold to better match my new engine build so after researching, i went with an AFR Titan 2 piece composite dual plane intake manifold.
The tank was pretty straight forward and didnt present any strange challenges. So nice to have that done and safe.
On the AFR Titan install, read and follow the directions to a "T". Paul Dana gave me some pointers on his install which i followed and so far, no issues whatsoever. What is amazing is how much cooler it is over an aluminum model. And not sure if this is a result of the intake or the Sniper, but prior to this my vacuum was roughly 6-8 inches due to cam. After, i'm pulling a strong 13" of vacuum ! My vacuum gauge would bounce around , now it's steady on the reading !
On the sniper, I ran new rubber fuel line that came with the kit for the supply line and used the factory hard supply line as my return line but used flexible on each end of it for making the connections.
For those doing this conversion, just so you know, if you use 45 or 90 degree AN fittings for connections at the Sniper, you can use a standard drop base air filter with no clearance issues.
First startup was amazing, fired right up. The display is quick to boot (3-4 seconds?) which allows time for the fuel pump to prime. Idle was great (For a big cam) fired at fast idle then quickly came down and maintained idle. I'm still learning it and it's still in learning mode but i'm very excited about the performance difference ! First drive was to fill up the new tank and boy, seat of the pants dyno was amazing ! Throttle is VERY responsive.
My question is for those who've done this or just have an opinion. After it's through the learning period, i'm wondering how much benefit would there be to go to the Hyperspark setup vs. keeping my DUI HEI setup ? Performance now is awesome, but i know the Hyperspark would put all the control into the computers hands. It's another $500 investment which i could recuperate some of it by selling my distributor. Any thoughts ?
DUEL PLANS ARE BAD FOR EFI AND VERY WELL MAY GIVE YOU PROBLEMS.. Sorry:-(
Quick update, I ended up mounting the coil in the same spot as @Johnnypegs, and the multi spark box on the passenger fender. I will post some pics when done. Unfortunately, my setup was missing a critical harness plug that connects the distributor to the Sniper. So , couldn't test fire. I called Holley support this morning and they're shipping a replacement out. I have to say, that clear cap they use for aligning the distributor is very slick ! Very simple to do. The hardest part of this entire install is the tight clearances we have to deal with for getting all the wiring done. I do think that if i had over the valve cover plug wires, this would have been nearly impossible. At least going around the back of the engine then under the headers freed up a lot of space for the wiring. Also the way smaller distributor cap makes for a lot more working room. Oh, and making your own coil wire ! Wow, that was tough getting the wire through the 90 degree boot !

oooh. Based on that I will check my boxes tonight. My brother is flying up this weekend and that would be a bummer if we couldn't finish because of missing parts!
Nicely done! I splurged And got the wire crimper from accel.. made it very very easy to make my wires!
That's funny. I too was looking through the instructions and it said not to use a crimper like "this" and it had a picture of mine. Ooops. So I ordered the really good ratcheting one.
Definitely check !
One bit of advise that stumped me for a bit. There is a 7 pin and a 10 pin harness. On the 7 pin harness, the yellow lead connects to the coil negative on the HEI distributor. With the Hyperspark, that gets removed completely and goes unused. The 10 pin has only 2 leads that get used (for my setup, i have a seperate electric fan controller). The Brown lead which will go to the coil negative lead and will drive your factory tach, and the white lead which goes to the white lead on the multi spark box. That will leave a whole bunch of unused wires on the 10 pin harness all of which can pickup RFI noise. A company called EFI System Pros sells a Sniper spare wire removal kit that will include a tool to remove the wires from the harness and rubber plugs to seal it off. I highly recommend buying it. It's only $20 and will clean up your wiring and reduce the risk of RFI.
Also, not saying this will be an issue for you, but if you get some weird stuff with your IAC, i ended up having to replace my alternator due to some weird RFI coming into my sniper system. I replaced it with a Tuff Stuff 140 amp and have been golden since ! What made me suspect it was while riding in a parade (lots of idle time), i noticed on the sniper handheld screen my voltage would occasionally drop to 10 and 11 volts. That issue and IAC weirdness are now gone !
