Default 1968 Headlight Supports - Help Needed

Now that I've had the frankenvette for a few months, and the diff/torque arms/hubs/spring is completely redone, I started in on the front, removing items for refurbishing. Bumpers, grille, etc. all off OK. Headlight assemblies are out, and now the wtf factor rears its ugly head.

The headlight supports on both sides have been welded/repaired. The left side appears to be from a 70-82, looking at the cover stop bracket (no adjuster screw - bracket has slotted holes). Right side is unknown. I can't find any part numbers on either casting. It seems the 68-74 supports are a bit longer on one front leg then the later ones, if the "notes" in the Ecklers catalog are correct. In addition to the weldment, there is a home made bracket attached to one side, but a somewhat factory one on the other side, which alter the mount point to the bracket rather than the mount point in the support.

Here's my question - Does anyone have a 68-74 support they can measure, and let me know if it's different than mine in the pictures? I will buy new supports, no problem, along with rebuild kits for the bearings, mechanisms, etc. I would like to see if they are really what I need, or if one of the POs added the brackets, etc. to compensate for other front end bracing damage that I can't detect. Or, any other timely advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, I did... thanks. The info on insulating the supports is great. I’m still trying to find the measurement to see if I can use what I’ve got, or if I need to get replacements. If replacements are the same size, then I’ll use what I’ve got, since this is not an ncrs car. I’ll make new, better, brackets, and just know that there is something out of kilter in the front end. I really think the supports are not welded accurately, but a quick measurement will tell a lot.

You should be able to just do a test fit to see if the holes align..... If they do, unless they welded the end in the wrong place you should be good to go.

I just removed them last week - both sides, and they needed the goofy bracket thing at the front to reach the front cross brace. Not sure if the gap is due to the brackets not right, or if prior body work was crap, and the front is too far out.

Did a swap with a member. Short ones for long ones. Good to go.

Thanks all
