Replaced my interior door panels and noticed I had no liner between them and the door frame as it came from the factory. Water cascades down the door panel and hits the sill and then soaks the carpet during a hard rain. New weatherstripping seals on the the door, front and rear, and at the windows.
This part is no longer made so I tried a piece of visqueen with some caulking around the edge, then reinstalled the door panel. Still leaks. Anyone else dealing with this? I would appreciate any solutions anyone has come up with.
I cut out one from 10mil(I think) black plastic and sealed it around with weather strip adhesive and duct tape along the top(Bubba made me do it). But I haven't had it in the rain and can't wash it water hoses due to draught.
Prob's like this make it 'garden hose time'. Keep running a moderate amt (delete the high press nozzle, just a trickle will do) of water over the roof, side glass, windsheild and door gaps. Open the door from time to time and check for intrusion. Water will take some strange paths sometimes, making you think it's one area of intrusion, when it's really another.
When you think you've found the intrusion point, check and seal your W/strips, deflectors, etc. Check again with water flow. Don't forget to start your search for intrusion by first viewing the upper portions of the pillars, moldings, etc. (as of course, water runs down hill)
The door inner panel will have drain holes at the bottom, but outside of the W/strip region. Any holes found inside this region are an invite to water intrusion.
Water leaks are in deed a PITA, and vettes have a ton of sealing surface areas that can be problematic. Good Luck -Rod :chevy
