Default Need advice on transmissions.

So im currently trying to decide how i want to build up my vette and im not sure what tranny would be best. It currently has a stock th350, but i want to put in a 383 with about 510hp and at the same time i do that im looking to replace the tranny to a 4 speed or better. For convenience sake im trying to find one easy to install with minimal modifications to the car. Im also considering a manual conversion but that seems like a headache from what ive read. Suggestions?

sst has 5 speed conversions. I havent done a 5 speed yet, everyone who has loves it. If you go to 5 speed you just have to decide on the gearing you need for first. depending on what your rear end is right now is how low you need

The 2004R will require the least modifications. No driveshaft change, rear mount is the same, same flexplate. Although not ideal, the TV cable will even attach to the quadrajet and function pretty well, or kits are available to add it to other carbs too. Just need to add a method for converter lock up which is pretty easy. You'll end up with good gear spacing and a .67 overdrive ratio. You can order the trans built to easily handle the power you're planning.

You will get a lot of different opinions, but the fact is that the 2004R requires the least mods from the way the car is set up now.

Without massive improvements neither Turbo 350 or 200 R4 will last with 510 horsepower. It is kinda dumb to even consider them unless you are willing to pay for the cost Just look them up online

reality check on 510 hp and transmission

My 69 434 SBC is running around with a 200r4 from BTO for 4 years now. No troubles with tranny, but I don't beat on it much, it's just my daily cruiser. You have to get the tranny built to handle the HP you are going to put in front of it. T
