I've just about convinced myself that I want to buy a set of PO-2 hubcaps for my '69. You rarely see them on drivers these days. Of the nearly 39k cars produced in '69, over 8000 were ordered with PO-2 deluxe wheelcovers. I can't think of the last time I saw a set on a Shark at a cruise-in or show. They will mount right on the rally wheel if I remove the derby caps and trim rings, so it's an easy switch back and forth depending on my mood.
Thanks for the input fellas! I think that they put a different "personality" on the car as compared to the rallys. I'll probably pick them up on Monday. What I'd really like to get in the long run is an extra set of wheels with redline tires in the stock size. Then run the PO-2's with the redlines. I really dig the look of the silver car with the PO-2's and redline tires. In the meanwhile, I'll switch off the rallys and PO-2's as the mood strikes.
Re: Do you like the PO-2's? (foundvettelifeisgood)
Since you asked, I really don't like them. To each his own.
You're right, I did ask. Thanks for your opinion. The strange thing is, when I got my car in 1998 I really hated the PO-2's too. I remember seeing a set on a '71 coupe down at the beach, and I told my wife how hideous I thought the wheelcovers were. Fastforward four years, and I've really grown to like the uniqueness of them. I feel like every chrome bumper car I see has rallys with BFG Radial T/A's, just like mine. I prefer a stock appearance, and think that the PO-2's will be a fun way to change it around from time to time.
If we all liked the same things, what a boring place it would be.
I have PO1s with red lines and to tell you the truth I hated them when I bought the car. They are starting to grow on me now but they just don't have the punch of a nice set of tt2s or other chrome rims.I'm going to keep them to use at shows but I'm going with TT 2s for cruising.
The pic in my sig really doesn't do them justice you can't see the red lines on the tires This was the pic the guy I bought the car from sent me
This is definitely a matter of personal taste question, but just to add my.02 cents to the pile I really like the PO 2 look on the 68-72 'Vette. Although the rally's are a nice wheelcover style, I've seen so many of them on almost every model that came out of Chevrolet during the late 60's all the way thru the 70's era that to me it's a tired look. When I bought my '72, after a few months, I took the rally's off and put on a nice set of PO 2's and the comments that I have received have been very favorable as to the way they make the car look very stylish. As others have said here, to each his/her own taste is all that matters. Save The Wave!!! :chevy
Paul and 73Stingraycoupe, thanks for posting pics of your cars. I can get a decent set of 4 wheelcovers for $100, so I'm going to pick them up today. I'll try to post some pics later this week of the car with each set of wheels.
You will need tire stem extensions. The regular ones will be too short. They sell them in any auto parts store, dirt cheap
I have a beauitiful set, repolished, no dings, and the "cones" has been restored. They have everything except the center ornament. And these go for $50 a piece :(
my car came with them, but i've never cared for them. i prefer the rallys myself. I switched them out the night i bought the car. I care even less for the PO2s after i dropped one on my foot. Mine are for sale for $100.00 obo (plus shipping).
I like them, own them, and keep them on. I also like Rally's but the PO2's are fairly unique and for that reason I keep them. But they are HEAVY! What was GM thinking?

ps, if you decide to buy a set from someone less than knowledgable or scrupulous, make sure you know the difference between the Corvette PO2's and the Monte Carlo ones. BIG difference.
I drive with mine on! I only have 3 of the originals that came with my baby...the Kansas wilderness ate one (it came off at 50 miles an hour, due to a horrendous set of speed bumps that weren't marked on the highway).
But, a local Corvette shop made me a deal, since he had 4 that he had for 8+ years that hadn't sold. I got all 4 (in good driver condition) for $125...when they normally sell for $75+ a peice. :smash:
I'd suggest getting that set offered above for $100 total.
