Paper capacitor

I'm in the process of changing my interior. So, I've pretty much removed everything inside. While I was doing this I found a paper capacitor under the dash. I figured it was for radio noise suppression. Then I found one added onto the wires is the brake light switch. Why would there be one there? Did GM install those, and if they did, did they use the connectors shown in the picture? I kinda doubt it, but I don't know when those connectors were available. Thanks

Spare harness from a late build 77 also has it. Looks like the same markings on the blue connectors also.

The one on the brake light switch was there to stop the radio making a "pop" noise each time you put your foot on the brake . GM did indeed put it there

Thanks. Do you think I need to replace it? I mean the capacitor at all, not just because it's paper.

If you are into "original", just leave it as-is. If not, just remove it.
