Removing paint
1) sand it off
2) media blast it off
3) scrape it off with a razor
4) remove with fiberglass compatible paint stripper
Looking for wisdom (pros/cons ea. method ) from those who have a lot of experience on this task, as I don't, and I need to proceed.
Thx
Use a heat gun and scrape it off with a razor. Then sand the rest.
I used a HF heat gun and a razor blade holder that looks like a long screwdriver with a razor blade holder on one end and a screwdriver handle on the other end. You move the heat gun a couple of inches ahead of where you are scraping in tandem with the razor. Too hot gums the paint, not enough heat will not soften the paint. So just right is the ticket and you have to find the sweet spot. I then sanded the rest with 80 grit, avoiding the sharp lines until the last finishing sanding. A LOT of work! Also, round the edges of the razor blade prior to scraping with sandpaper to lessen the possibility of the razor gouging the body.
Some strip with aircraft fiberglass stripper, but I have stripped boats before and would not do it again. Check Lars paint paper for one method. Also check the paint section here, lot of ways to do this but all entail significant work and time.
My 2 cents and hope this helps.

because when you strip paint from a metal car with a sander, it stops material removal uniformly on the flat metal surface.
when you sand strip paint from fiberglass you have no way of stopping at a uniform height, creating wavy panels.
the only exception to this is if you use a flat board only for sanding.
I like the razor blade method clean and neat , you can stop start anytime.
I razor stripped this one.

I also stripped a hood that did have the original lacquer paint and a razor wouldn't touch it. I ended up using stripper.
