tranny removal for C2
Is it possible to remove tranny with engine in car? I have a lift to use but I can not find any threads related to my problem. I have a tranny noise when down shifting to first and push the shifter hard forward and hold it there. The noise is not gear grinding but a loud whining noise and the noise continues when I shift to neutral from first and of course it does not happen all the time. It started in June and not the rest of the summer till now. Looked at tranny fluid threads and will try fixing the noise problem with changing the fluid with GM tranny lub. #89021671 if I can find it near Milwaukee. any ideas other than fluid change and clutch free play adjustment?????? Chuck

I don't remember any Chevy I could not change a clutch in the car, so it must be able to be removed.
If you remove it, by all means change the clutch and throw out bearing. All it will cost is a few more parts. Luke is a good stock unit.

Pilot or throwout bearing?
Yes..you can pull trans. Not a lot of fun but it will come out. You have to get shifter off and slide trans as far back as possible and tilt nose of it down and work it out of there.
