Repair wires or replace harness
Last week while removing the #1 spark plug, my wrench arced against my alternator and fried the fuse link on the starter harness and the red wire on the altenator stud was melted and the back wire on the two wire connector was burned away and the red wire is brittle. My question is can those two wires be repaired and if so, what guage wire are the black and red wires at the connector and the red wire that is fastened to the stud on the altenator? A little voice is telling me to replace the entire harness.

My question would be what kind of shape is the harness in overall? Is it brittle and not very flexible? or seem to be still pretty pliable? The hot to the alternator is 10 ga, the red wire is also 10 ga, and the black or brown is maybe a 16 or 18 ga. You can get a replacement pigtail for that connector at a parts store.
