Need some help regarding the wiper operation on my 71 coupe. I have replaced the wiper motor and washer pump, but it doesn't seem to turn-on. Now, I think it may be the switch. When I turn on the switch the wiper door opens, but the wipers don't work. However, as soon as I start the car the wiper door opens up...then closes. Although, when I shut the car off the wiper door rises again. What could be causing these problems? (I hope it's the switch). Note: I have checked all of the grounds and they seem to be OK.
First thing to try is the wiper shut off below the dash. This is the round one in the center of the pull overrides under your steering wheel. It is there to stop the wipers from working electrically so you can change the blades. It may be in the wrong position.
Try that first, if it doesn't fix the electrical portion of the problem then post back.
I think you may have the top and bottom hoses mixed up on the interlock valve. That's located under the pass side wiper. There are three spigots. Leave the center one on and swap the other two and check the operation. One is a vent so there may not be a hose on it but swap bottom to top anyway. Post back if that doesn't cure the vacuum portion.
