Default Not your typical c3 side pipes.

Not necessarily something new, but not what you see typically on a c3 when installing side pipes..... and did I ever learn why the side pipes were routed/stepped outside the chassis and body.

however, being stubborn like I am. I was qph9nktJ

to tuck or at least streamline the side pipes with the body/chassis. It was no easy task and for me, I have a problem of not researching and just doing the redundant trial and error method. Cost a lot more time but it adds a fun fabricating imagination factor to it.

This is is what I came up with. Still have some minor tweaks to do, and then send with final product out for paint.

Your side pipes àre actually functional because of the correct primary length and diameter*

Cool - they actually look similar to the factory side pipes, the way the individual pipes go into one before exiting the car. Did you have to cut down the side tubes to make them shorter?

luckily, I didn’t have to cut the side tubes. Before I was able to figure out the angles and what I needed to tweak. I was nervous That the pipes would need to be cut to ensure the angles lined up....

what I did was, took enough off the header pipe after removing the collectors but just enough to not destroy the harmonics or overall diameter of the header. Then the 90 coming off the header was shortened on both ends and then the end welded to the header got a half moon angle cut into it. Which allowed the angle to align with the second 90 going into the side pipe. To get my angles the two 90s actually make more of an S shape.

OK. (That's a nice open header set-up, though!)

A friend here has a similar set up on his 74 , ground clearance is his problem and putting it on a car trailer usually involves adding wood blocks on the ramps to get clearance .

He used 3 inch pipe and flanged the join at the end of his headers.

The thought, time, and effort that went into creating this set of pipes really show. Nice work.

Definitely applaud your effort but I agree ground clearance will be a big issue. Jere Stahl made what i still thint are the best set up. The hooker stylet lIke i hAve are actually not as bad as some seem to think..

Nicely done!

What type of heat shielding are you considering at the firewall, floorboard intersection?

Nice work! If your car is lowered much, clearance mat be a problem as others have note. I have 3" pipe tucked up tight underneath and they still scrape on some driveways, speed bumps the like. My pipes aren't nearly a low as yours. My car is lowered, but not so much the tires are inside the fenders like some here.

Lots of work, creativity and persistance. Exhaust tube seems short; prefer exhaust fill length of rocker.

A few years back I struck up a convo with a C3 owning couple at big show in Myrtle Beach. Learned they'd just backpedalled on Hooker side pipes ...she scorched a calf ... they'd just took off the Hooker setup.. yes it was for sale. I met them a few weeks later... full Hooker sbc setup with crap mufflers ... fresh hi-temp black ... NO Rust-thru ... $200 ... luck or Providence?

Similar story for me. I got one set of headers and and TWO sets of side pipes for $300.00

As I would turn the key off, I would tell my passengers DON"T TOUCH THE SIDE PIPES. I still caught a few. One girl tole me last year she still has the scar on her leg. That was about 1987 or so.

LOL. I tell my wife every time she gets out of the car "watch the pipes!". And she says "I know, I KNOW!"
