Single plane manifolds have one opening in which the carburetor sits. I is primarialy used in racing applications. A dual plane manifolds opening is divided into two openings.
I ran one years ago on my '70 Nova. They were essentially the predicesor to the Victor jr. I was very happy with mine. It gave me excellent flow at high rpm's. The little scorpion on the front made it look really :cheers: . I bet I had more comments about that than anything. Depending on the audience you talk to these things can be pretty valuable. I wish I still had mine. I don't have an sb anymore but they are neat to have. And an excellent conversation piece. It was stolen in a house break in while I was in the military.
It's a smaller runner single plane intake. Single is just what the name implies under the carb is just one big open plenum. I don't know about valuable. I think with 25 years Edelbrock and other manufatures have refined the ram air effect of tuned intake manifolds. I'm just more modern.:)
Just for trivia sake: The Tarantula was the first edelbrock air gap single plane intake released for general sales. It would be the forerunner of the Victor Jr's
