Hit up your local auto parts stores to see if they have rental tools available.
You can usually find a specialty tool you can rent for a day without having to make one that may not do a job correctly.

home reno equipment, like floor sanders, brick saws, jack hammers, scaffolding etc you can hire, just not small hand tools.
i have a selection of various wrenches, jigs n fixtures that i've bought for that 1 off job.
at least if a mate needs to do the same job i can give him the correct tools.
Corvette rear suspension calls for specialized tools that you can certainly build using a lathe and a mill. I just invested on a Bridgeport clone mill and have my sights on a lathe now. Gotta start building my own tools since I work on 12 different cars now -

THere was a guy on ebay that made a bunch and was selling them cheap, thats where I got mine. I look in the parts for sale section for tools that get used once then sold since you dont need them often.
I've watched some videos and read some threads on doing work with the rear end bearings, etc. Looks like a job left for those with all the tools and especially the experience and knowledge. I'm pretty handy and have some decent tools, but the bearings are a job I wouldn't touch.
