Welcome! I'm pretty new myself, and everyone has been very helpful and kind. Check out the archived section, it is amazing the amount of information available.

I decided to go with a '77 because I wanted to drive it and play every day the weather permits. The chrome bumper cars are worth too much to do that, but they are sweeeeeet!

Good luck in the hunt, just be patient and hold out for a good body and interior, those two things can nickle and dime you to death.

Wow, thanks for all the replies everyone. A lot more then I expected... :D

To answer a few questions.

erika: Yeah, you can easily do that. True 8" subwoofers are difficult to find, not a lot of companies make them. JL and kicker make some decent 8" subwoofers, however I'm not into mainstream equipment. I know a lot about it, it's just not my taste. However, it's very possible. However, if you're working about space, it might make you feel better that these days they are building 10" subs that will run 0.33 cuft sealed and sound excellent. Instead of dual 8's, I'd recommend using a single 10" or 12". If you want some specific brands, e-mail me and I can name you a few and point you in the right direction.

Rod: Chances are that you're driving your amp at too low an impedance. If you put a sub with a 2 ohm nominal impedance running on an amp only designed to run at 4 ohms, the amp will usually have on board protection circuitry. There's a 99% chance that's your problem. What subs are you running and what amp are you running?

GDiana, unfortunately I'd love to just drive the car for a year without touching it. The big problem is that my insurance is insane right now. I recently had an accident that was determined partially my fault, and also because of my age and license status, the price tag to drive the corvette for insurance would be around 550 a month cdn (around $350 american) which is really crazy. I can afford it, but I feel like that money would go better towards a savings to do some upgrades. Also, the particular vette I'm looking at only has a 305 in it right now. The 350 threw a rod, and the owner swapped the engines. He says the original 350 still works fine (no cracked block or anything) but I have yet to take a look at it. He said he'd give me the car and both engines for four grand cdn flat (around 2.6k american). The car is in pretty good shape from my eye, although a few things I overlookd, but the interior is in very rough shape. Whatever, that can be fixed. Funny thing is though... I don't even have the money at all... If it all goes good, I'll still have to wait a couple of months to save, at least.

Even so... I'd love to drive it just with the 305 for a while... But the insurance is prohibitively expensive. I've got a lot of things on my plate for next year financially that could produce a lot of money, so if I have money to burn, I might say what the hell and do it. Thanks for the advise, though. I'll keep it in mind.

Anyway, since all you guys are posting your play toys, I thought I'd post a few pieces of equipment I like to play with :p:

Eclipse Ti Pro 18", my newest aquisition straight from the manufacturer on a good deal. Retails for $1,800 from Eclipse (I didn't pay that, though :D) Displaces 8 litres of air linear, around 3,000 continous power handling (yet to be tested), weighs as much as my last girlfriend... I'm not the guy in the pictures, by the way. It's my sub, just a friend of mine.

Currently my largest amp. 26" long, USA-400, tosses about 1,600 watts into 2 ohms... Beautiful amp!

The sub I currently have in my car, 2.25 cuft sealed. CMP 15". Awesome sub. (on the left)

A couple of semi-custom boxes I've built, for low budgest systems for customers.

One of the systems installed...

And last, but not least, my trebuchet. A midevil siege weapon I built in my back yard in about a year, standing some 35 feet tall, capable of hurling a 20 pound rock roughly 500 feet. Was recently decommisioned, though :(

Anyway, sorry for so many pictures... I just love sharing my projects and experiences with other people.

Enjoy!! :D

P.S.... It's nice to have some CANUCKS on here. Hehe.

Adam

Rod - Where are you mounting that amp? I wonder if it is getting no airflow and shutting down because of overheating. Just a thought.
