I was successful using silicone bronze rod and then peening it as it cooled to stop it from cracking. Also did the V cut and pre heat red.
I would go with the post above and find a good shop that does ALL kind of welding.
Take it to a welding shop but get a quote first! These are expensive to replace and most have hair line cracks,but they are out there for full replacement
Nickel rod will do fine without too much hassle. But if it's not leaking I'd just leave it. And if it was I'd probably get another. A welded up original isn't worth anything...so no worse than a nice repro.

I like nickle rod. I did ARC welding with that rod on Ford stamping plants cast. We put the cast in a GIANT oven till it was red and then tried not to get heated up. Was easy because of the midwest temp in he winter , or a fan in the summer. But the peening was necessary.
