Mine used to be mounted on the frame just behind the right front tire :nonod: . I just got done moving it to the rear cross member just inside where the pass side exhaust exits the rear panel on my 69. I was even able to use existing holes (not sure your 74 would be the same) and plumbed it in the fuel line between the tank and the metal fuel line which starts on the frame rail just behind the pass rear tire. The pump's ground was tied to one of the mounting bolts with a star washer and the power was run along-side and tywrapped to the metal fuel line up to the small R (run) terminal on the starter. Don't use the other small terminal which is marked S for start or the larger one which always has + power directly from the battery. My regulator is mounted on the pass side inner fenderwell in the engine compartment. The only thing I might add is a kill switch in the interior somewhere for security against theft. Good luck with your install!
Does the Starter "R" Terminal provide power as a Hot Lead while the ignition is on??? That is where you hooked it up to correct??? Let me know........I think I might do that too!!!! :yesnod:
Yes, the R terminal gets power from the ignition switch when you switch your key on and is on as long as the car is running or the key is in that position. The S terminal only gets power when you turn the key further to engage the starter.
i rqn a red #12 gague wire from the pump to the ignition switch, put in a inline fuse, and ground wire. If I remember, total time as less than 1.5 hrs.
what ever method you use to wire your pump, you should always have an emergency cutoff switch with any electric pump. Holley makes one that uses low oil pressure as a cutoff.
