Default Rear tire size

I know it’s probably been posted a million times, but I have honestly searched first. My 76 has BFG 245/60/15 all the way around now. I need/ want more width in the rear, and really like the look of same all the way around, but not sure what works well.
Does anyone have a rear shot of 295s on stock wheels? Will they work, other than possible mod to brake cable?
295s would be same height as the 245s in front based on the tire site.

My 245-60-15’s just kiss the frame rails when the front wheels are at full lock on the steering, and they just clear the parking brake cable mount on the rear trailing arm using the OEM rallies.
295’s on the front and rear will probably have clearance issues without changing wheel backspacing or running spacers.

I use 255/60/15 on the rear of my 78. I use the 245/60/15 for the front so I don't have to cut the front fenders like the factory did.

I was thinking keeping the 245 on the front and 295 on back, or Is 295 just too wide?

You might get the 295's on the rear if you relocate the parking brake cable mount.
Many members move it to run wider tires.
I'm not sure if the 295's will have clearance issues or not even if you relocate the mount.
I would think a 295-60-15 would be too wide for an 8" wheel.
They might mount ok, but I would think they would bulge out on the sidewalls.
There is a thread called show your upgraded tire and wheels in C3 General, or something like that, with hundreds of posts showing different tire sizes mounted on C3's and explain what was needed to do to get them to fit.

the 295 might be too wide without parking brake cable relocation but consider going to a 295/50R15 rather than 60 to keep the overall diameter of the tire at about 27".

I use P255/60/15 all around. No rubbing here. 1981

i left that out, but was planning on the 295/50 for same height. I’ll have to look at posts about parking brake relocate, as I can see that is real close now with 245/60s

This is an old pic I had when I ran 295 50 15 street tires on the back. I don't think stock wheels would work very well, even though I know a few guys have run them. My Welds are 15x9 and if I could have figured out how to fit 15x10's I would have. The tire looked a little bit pinched on the 9, which is why I would have preferred 10's. I also am running offset T-arms which allow for a wider tire in the 15 inch size. If you are running a stock T-arm, then the tire bulge may hit the T-arm. 275 60s will fit for sure. Here's apic with 275 60's on stock wheels.

245-60-15s on the front. 275-60-15s on the rear. Not without rear modifications.

Were the 295’s inside the fender on suspension compression? What was the backspace of those wheels with the 295’s.

The 295's were on the same Welds I have now. They're 15x9 with 5 1/2 inch backset,...but at the time I was running a VB 1 1/4 inch wheel adaptor, so the effective backset was 4 1/4 inches. I had to do that because of the brake caliper, and the fact that Weld will not make custom offset wheels. The tire did stick out past the fender about 1/2 inch, but never hit the fender in the decade I ran them.

I know this is a bit off the OP question, but will add that I now run 295 55 15 MT drag Radials on the same wheels,.....but because they were a bit wider, and I'm a bit ****,....I recently got thinner wheel adaptors to pull the tries in some. When I had the spring out, I checked full compression and with my new bump stop have an inch clearance between the tire and fender. Even though the tire still only sticks out 1/2 inch, there's no way it will ever hit the fender. This mod required a custom shortened spring and a few tweaks to get it right, so by no means a bolt on deal. But the MT's are huge tires...
Here is a pic showing how far the tire sticks out past the fender. As you can see it's mostly sidewall bulge, not tread that sticks out.
