tried my wipers and they came on but switch fell apart. got a new one and put it on but wipers came on for a second then went off. I know I got the dark wire where it belongs but does it matter with the 2 red ones? I switched them but still nothing. I opened the wiper door but still nothing.i also turned the **** under dash but nothing. can someone tell me how to troubleshoot this? oh, fuse is good. how would I go about checking the motor? and is it hard to change it?

its a 71 big block coupe. also I just took the wires off switch and touched the red and black together and nothing so would this eliminate the switch? also does switch have to be installed to be grounded?

On the ar, start by checking the main power.
Live power (on all the time) to the switch under the dash
From that switch to the wiper door limit switch, check here with a test light, one of the two sides should be live regardless of the door position if the switch under the dash is on
Check the other side of the door switch with the door open, should be power
If that's ok, then you need to test the motor using Willcoxs method to see if it works
The switch is grounded by contacting the metal plate it's screwed down to. there is a strip of copper on the switch that runs along the outside to make that ground. That little strip was corroded on mine, but you can just use a short piece of wire to serve the same pupose.
I would start by removing the switch and inspecting it.
if it's not that...
Is the wiper door opening and closing correctly?
could be a wiper switch issue

what year is your car?. Generally all the new switches are junk. My new out of the box corvette america switch did the same thing. I bought a used original switch from 1960FI and it works great and has been for 3 years. I think Willcox tests all his wiper switches for proper functioning before sending them.
Look up Willcox bench test for your motor. I bet your system is fine. Generally the wiper switch is grounded to the center bezel but they generally crack so you lose the ground. I fixed mine but ran a separate ground up to the birdcage under the dash for a better ground
