I don't think you can fully rely on the chart or spring color. That is just be a educated guess with YOUR distributor. You'll need a timing light or a distributor machine to fine tune.
You dont state which manufacturer the spring kit is from. I assume it's for HEI and it clearly states in the link below that the Black is the lightest for Mr.Gasket. https://www.holley.com/products/igni...nts/parts/929G
Sorry, part of my post seems to have disappeared.
What I wanted to say was, in Lars papers we read that we should use gold, to get the advance in at 3000 rpm. But for that it looks like we need the black springs, as those are the lightest curve on the graph?

Use the gold springs. They are the heaviest. Black is lightest and will usually make the curve come in too fast. Sometimes the gold springs are even too light, and you may have to play with mixing and matching one original spring with one gold spring (or other combination) to get the total timing all-in by 2800 - 3000 rpm. Every distributor is different, and there is no set single magic parts combination to make it work right every time. Try it out and work with it.

Thanks!
I suppose their graph is all wrong then? Or is their graph based on the included weights and are our stock weights heavier? Haven't been able to weight them as it's one of those things I lost during restoring the car. (In my defence, the only other lost piece is the steering wheel star screw, luckily it appears to be the same as the C4 screw, wich I happen to have a spare off 😁
