What is normal for oil pressure?

When my 81 is idling the gauge shows 20, when I'm driving around town it shows 30 and on the highway it's 35. Are these normal readings?

Mine idles about 35 when going down the highway it reads about 40. If I step on it, it reads even more.

I don't know if much changed between 73 and 81 but the factory spec for 73 was 40 lbs pressure at 2000 rpm.

a good rule is that for every 1000 rpms..you should have at least 10 psi. so at 3000 rpms you should have at least 30 psi and so on

Mine runs 40 psi at idle, 50 when using a little throttle, don't have time to look when it's revved up :D

Idle seems fine as does around town. I would say 35 on the highway is a little low. Before I changed my pump last July I was seeing 20, 35 and 45. I went with a new "standard" replacement pump (below) and I now see 25, 40 and 55. That is with Castrol 10W-30.

10psi for every 1000rpm is fine.

My gauge reads ~70 at idle and is pegged at 80 under light acceleration. Is there a sending unit that I need to replace, or is the gauge itself broken? :confused:
