In October 2018 I decided on 3 projects for my 81 vet street rod. 1) Header wrap 2) Install A/C delete kit 3) install 3 pak on pillar post.
This week I completed the A/C delete which was the toughest of the 3.
The header wrap was done without pulling the headers, I only did the pipes down about 8 inches, My main goal was engine compartment cooling. The center pipes were the toughest due to the closeness of the pipes to each other. But with the help of extra long needle nose pliers and some wine corks shave down to hold the wrap in place by shoving th
em between the pipes it went quite well . The stainless ty wraps installed easily with just a few cuts from the cut ends of the completed wraps. To prevent future cuts I applied a glob of hitemp permatex over the ends.
The vertical 3 pak on the drivers pillar was easy. The voltmeter was attached to a spare connection on the fuse panell The vacuum gage was tapped into the vacuum switch under the steering wheel close out panel, and the tach was wired into the dist. tach connection.
The a/c delete kit was easy to install the tough part is the removal of the evaporator and enclosure. Take the drier and the radiator overflow tank out first. That gives you some room to work. The enclosure is two pieces and must be seperated before you can get it out. After that things get easier and it makes life alot easier to work on the engine in that area.
Have yet to figure out how to attach pics. will send tommorrow (hopefully
used Titanium header wrap. Gold color. When you cut it I suggest you apply a bead of glue on both ends and let it dry. This will prevent unraveling of the ends as you work with it.
I bought the Summit headers and have thought of wrapping them prior to putting them on, however the talk of the wrap causing them to rust out has me thinking otherwise. have you had wrapped headers before?
