Default 7/16" or 1/2" Wheel Studs

Who has upgraded to 1/2" wheels studs and did you have any fitment issues with your wheels?
I asked the same question in an earlier thread but didn't get a good response so I thought I would ask the question in another more direct way.

I saw your post the other day and thought of responding but my wheels are not custom like yours. They are Weld Drag Lites, which use shank style lug nuts. The OD of the nut is made to fit the wheel regardless of the actual stud thread size. In my case I have 7/16 studs on the front wheels, and 1/2 inch on the rear,....wheels fit fine.

If the wheel vender said they'd fit....why do they have different options when you order the wheels for stud size?

I'd order a set of studs and try them on the wheel for fit prior to actually installing the stud. If there's a problem,.....you know what to do.

To meet racing rules you have to install 1/2 inch dia. and longer length studs to meet racing requirement rules. My billet wheels were made for 1/2 inch wheel studs and tapered wheel nuts so you could use either 7/16th or 1/2 inch. the tapered nuts center the stud in the hole.

If you are buying outer spindles just go ahead and buy the stronger 1/2 inch.

I have the long 1/2 inch ARP’s on mine. Fit fine with my P.S. Engineering tourque thrust. I think virtually all aftermarket wheels would work with 1/2 inchers. Remember you will have to drill and chamfer the rotors.

The wheels aren't custom, are just production type wheels and are machined for tapered wheel nuts.
Thanks for the information, and it looks like I'll be ok with the 1/2" studs.

My 8" rally wheels...as well as all my various aftermarket ones work fine with 1/2 studs. Just get the correct nuts....

Ok, what's to know and what would make them the correct ones?
I was planning to call the wheel manufacturer and if available just order them from E/T Team III Wheels.

You should be fine. I am running American Racing wheels and just had to get new lug nuts when I went to 1/2" studs on the rear (fronts are still 7/16"). FYI, I torque the 7/16" to 85 ft-lbs and the 1/2" to 100 ft-lbs. Extra torque on the larger studs to get good clamping.

I spoke with the wheel manufacturer this morning and they confirmed that my wheels will work with 1/2" studs and standard 1/2" lug nuts.
Thanks again for all your comments!
