...You were able to order a color other than a corvette color...
Read that section again. It says very few Corvettes were painted in non-Corvette colors. That override required GM permission and (usually) only if it was not going to cost GM anything.
...Even order one with primer paint only...
There were never many cars ordered in primer. Primer is no color and that did not cost GM anything.

Well known Corvette Myth. There was no fire. The records are not available for the earlier cars because GM did not keep them.

The only thing you can get for your 78 is the dealer invoice. My understanding was that most of the build sheet records were lost in a fire some years ago. The only other place to look would be the tank sticker if it is still there. I ordered the vehicle invoice for my 78 which listed the options along with the color much like a build sheet. Worth the $50 it cost me.
I stated above that I sent for the invoice, they are the ones that told me it wasn't available because mine was an export vehicle...
And that's truthful...I got the same message when I requested the invoice for my 78. My window sticker showed it had been ordered by soldier in Germany but then delivered to Silver Springs, MD, USA. I tracked down the original owner who did not want to pay a surcharge of $5k dealers were adding to the 1978 silver anniversary (like they would do with Pace Cars) so waited until he got shipped to Germany and ordered from an Opel dealer.
This is a old post but worth a shot if you haven't done so. Read the 4th reply down as it refers to calling GM Canada to obtain information on the car if it was sold new in Canada.
Found the website for the Canada vintage info. I've emailed asking for their request form and will probably call tomorrow. I'll post up if they provide any info.... Thanks for the lead Ken!
So I heard back from George in Canada and they have no records for the car either.... So I guess there is no way to find info on this car and figure out the strange paint code.... If anyone has any other ideas I'm open for suggestion. I'm gonna try looking for the build sheet above the fuel tank soon since it seems like the last possibility...
I found an post for a earlier C3 that they found the build sheet inside the frame where power steering cyl connects. I assume that would be on the drivers side. I know on my 90 there is a build sheet inside the crossmember just under the front of the engine. I can see it through a hole but can't pull it out because the hole is to small. I going to look at my 78 this weekend and see if there is anything there. I already check my gas tank when I had the rear bumper off and didn't find any build sheet.
