Default 72 vette fuel sending unit

Hi All,

I'm sure this has been asked about before but here goes: 1972 Vette new fuel tank, new sending unit and I cannot get the lock ring to seat under any circumstances.

What are the major problems with this assembly? Do I need to buy that tool for a 1 time use or is do I need to bend the locking tabs a smidge to get the lock ring to start?

your wisdom and expertise is always welcomed.

I just used a screw driver and hammer to tap it around.

are you using the correct rubber O ring? have you tried lubricating the ring?

I went through this on my 66'........I made sure the o-ring was lubed up well with silicone grease (Dielectric) and the "leaders" on the lock ring I bent up at the edge ever so slightly to guide the ring under the tabs on the tank.......
Getting it started is the pain......this worked for me.

Default Fuel Sending unit install.

Thank you all who answered my question. A special Kudos to Jebbysan with his wisdom to slightly bend the locking tabs enough to get the lock ring started.
That worked perfectly and very easy. Thanks again.
