A friend of a friend owned a Classics repair shop for many years but closed it about a year ago. Last month He was at my house looking at my ‘69 convertible and being very kind with his time and helping me (since I’m such a noob to all this) by giving tips etc...
Since he knew I wanted to replace my carpets, one tip he he gave me was to use Eastwood Xmat, but also said to roll on some truck bed liner direct on the fiberglass before laying the Xmat...has anyone done this? My only real concern is whether the Xmat will actually stick to the bed liner as bed liner seems to be kind of like Teflon (nothing sticks).
I use a similar product but it is the DynaMat Extreme.,
And I can say that when I cover the firewall and all other areas....I wash the areas I plan on applying it with a solvent so it is clean so when I apply the adhesive backed DynaMat Extreme....it sticks like crazy.
SO...NO...I would not roll out or apply anything on the areas I plan on applying the product.
I rebuilt a CJ5 a few years back and I thought it would be a good idea to spray the bottom and inside the tub with lizard skin bed liner for sound deadening. Apparently it is not heat resistant, because every location near the engine it has pealed. Not sure about the bed liner you are referring to, but I would just go with Dynamat in the future.

Appreciate everyone's input...you just saved me $90 in bed liner!

Then I apply layer of the DynaPad.

so I am done installing the Dynamat Extreme in the back of my ‘69... I am wondering if I am overdoing it (or underdoing it)! I have been cutting out sections so I can squeeze the stuff into each nook and cranny, then using metal tape (the kind used with flexible ducts) to keep the pieces from curling.
Here’s where I am. My first time doing this and yes, I’m pretty **** about details so this much took me several hours (like 8 total)...
there are bed liners that are not slick like that but is to late now. Only way I know of to have to much sound deadener is to put so much you can install things correctly.
