sorry...just realized I should have highlighted the parts in question...was a long day. both appear to be some kind of relays. in the top pic one is just above the steering box....in the bottom one its the black box with the 3 terminals on it...ty

Thanks Ralph...that's kind of what my thought was, some type of alarm system. just wasn't sure because the unit in top pic is riveted so I was thinking it may be something factory .

It is interesting how relays have grown up over the years. The one almost looks like a telegraph key.

It sure does. I'll remove it and maybe the one in second pic as well. Just didn't want to be taking out things that belonged..lol

This is a guess but the 68's had an external voltage regulator mounted in that area. It looks like you are missing the cover.
