I was driving my 72 the other day but got stuck at work and had to work late. Well on the way home I noticed that I had to gauge or console lights . The lights on the radio still work . Checked fuse and it was good . Were else should I look? I’ve read it could be the headlight switch. Please help !

Check your fuses and check the tail lights. I lost all that as well and have to check my fuse block. I had everythiing die this past summer and had to jump power because I had a dead fuse ( no power to it). Another thing on my winter list that I forgot about......damn I'm only 53 and cant remember anything.
I had an issue where my instrument lights, taillights, and side marker lights wouldn’t work. Headlights, interior lights, and brake lights all worked fine. Checked power at the fuse box. Had power running to the taillight fuse but not the instrument lights fuse. It turned out to be the headlight switch (a common problem on these cars from what I hear). Replaced it with a new one. Now everything works fine.

Remove the fuse and test for continuity.
Reinstall fuse and test on the 'CLIPS' that you have power in and out.
TAIL light fuse feeds the INSTRUMENT fuse so make sure TL fuse is good.
Testing the rheostat:
Jumper from 'Courtesy' light fuse to the 'instrument' light fuse.
If the dash bulbs light up the rheostat in the headlight switch is bad.
