Power window/locks common sense
Maybe he should've looked here - unless he's the one who left it this way.
driver's door jamb wiring
The wires to the power lock and window motor were all cut through to the bare wire, 1 was cut completely. The ground wire on the
power lock switch connector had fallen off as well.
Make sure you put these on correctly and save a lot of headaches - lucky for me I spotted it right away after I tested the motor for
power and got intermittent power. Now to pull the wires and repair them and feed them back through - the fun part. Glad I have small
arms now!
If that wasn't bad enough, when I bypassed the door wires on the motor to the connector under the dash I still got intermittent power
when moving the switch back and forth. At first thought was the relay or breaker...then remembered reading a few posts about the
switches going bad....so as I was starting to take the connector off it, it seemed a few wires were very loose in the connector. I wiggled
while moving the switch and that was it. Easy fix but nagging problem!
Glad I found these things - it sure pays to check everything. I cleaned the window motor brushes and lubed it up too.
I'm sure it drove the previous owner nuts trying to figure this out, along with the malfunctioning alarm system I removed.
I found a repair manual in the rear compartment - too cheap to have it fixed by someone who was familiar with them.
Probably why he sold it, and at a good price.
Hope these tips help somebody - luckily for me I was a flat-rate mechanic in the '70's at a Chevy dealer and worked on these a time or two.
