Hi
which batteri should i use for a 1969 Corvette BB ,390/bhp with automatic gear?
Which digits should i looking for ?which AH and which CCA?
what does CCB means?
thank you
Group 74 (75 should fit without a problem)
You'll have to check if it's side or top post (I think 69 is when they changed)
800 or more CCA (anything above probably 700 should be fine, use a disconnect switch when not driving)
Don't worry too much about the ah rating, most anything in that size will be fine
I don't recognize CCB, is that a company name?
Buy a decent brand name and expect to pay decent money (that said the walmart maxx batteries are pretty damn good)

In my 66'......and this 72' I have now......I bought the cheapest damn battery they had for both.....why? Because both had 640CCA......why do you need more? It is not a boat....you will never use the true capability of the battery.....a 640CCA turns the starter over just as well as a 1000CCA....because the starter only uses 200 amps or so under load. O'Reilleys Econo-Start...$74 on my Commercial Account.
The only benefit you get from a more expensive battery is a better warranty......
There are only three companies that make automotive batteries on the planet too (for the most part)........so pay less attention to the name. Pay close attention to the date code on the battery though.....you don't want a two year old brand new battery.....
Now heavy stereos....mucho electronics......driving lights, ultra cold temps.....may warrant more battery........but I have found that a batteries age is more important than anything else.
I also put the smallest battery (top and side post) I could in the stock position with an aftermarket tray.....this allowed me plenty of room for the knife blade kill switch I have right off the negative terminal.
As stated the biggest thing to look at is what post you need depending on your cable connections. Over the years some previous owner could have replace the cables. Then make sure it fits into the battery box. Like Moser said the starter will only draw as much current as it needs to work so 650 CCA will be sufficient unless you have a very high compression engine or a diesel. Most batteries are made by the same company and there are really only 3 battery manufactures in the US. Delphi, Exide and Johnson Controls. Delphi makes some EverStart and ACDelco. Johnson Control Industries makes Duralast , Diehard , Kirkland - the Costco brand, Motorcraft and some of the EverStarts, and Interstate. Exide makes Exide batteries, Champion, Napa and even some EverStart batteries. So the most are the same internally. Only the labels change.
