On my 71 vette the door lock key goes in the cylinder upside down. teeth sticking up. I think this is wrong ? could the lock cylinders be installed backwards ? or is this correct for a 71 vette ? my car has the same square key for the ignition and the door locks.
I had to remove the drivers side door key lock because it would not turn to the lock/unlock position. Once I had the locksmith clean and lube the lock, I reinstalled it up side down a couple of times. I couldn’t take pictures because it’s so far up in the door. After several attempts, I was able to get it oriented correctly, if the your other lock is correct, you may need to remove the door panel so you can replicate the correct orientation. There is a pus on clip that holds the lock in place and it’s no fun to
engage or remove it from the lock. I never found any pictures of the correct orientation, so that’s why it took me several tries to get it correct. Good Luck.

Clocking the key tumbler in tight quarters is tough be cause of all the components in the way. I found that removing the handle really helped. Keep the tumbler loose in the door hole with the key in it. This allows you to check teeth are not upside down as well as turning the key. Also need to be careful when reinstalling tumbler clip to door, don;t want to crack anything. You may need to adjust the small bent rod to fine tune. Not a bad job, takes a little time and patience to get it all right.
