I have a 69 with a Muncie m21 4 speed. When at speeds over 70 I get a rattle from the shifter lever. I took the boot off to see if anything loose. Appears there is some play where the handle engages with the shift levers. Anyone know if this is normal or how to correct?
When the body came off I noticed that ALL of the attaching bolts were very loose. Shifter felt terrible, now I knew why...................................
Get a shifter rebuild kit ,it comes with thicker plates to remove all the play you have .When I did mine I made the tool for the linkage adjustment put it back together and now its as firm as new .Even neutral is better not all sloppy like it was before: thumbs:.
Shifter noise/rattle/buzz can be caused by a missing, broken, or incorrectly installed T-handle spring.
The spring should be installed after the T-handle and prevents the T-handle from making noise.

is the play shown in the video normal? Should there be vertical movement when in gear?
