Default Differential problem?

This is a pic of my differential yoke looking up. Notice how the flange looks warped? Do I have a problem? Has anyone out there had their diff. rebuilt? How do you know you need this done? How much $$ was it? Is this something you should do after 110,000 miles as preventative medicine? :seeya

IF it isn't leaking or scraping or making other noises I wouldn't worry about it unless you plan some heavy drag racing. Looks like something might have hit it, maybe on installation even. I have seen worst with no problems.

A rebuild should run you around $500 or so. Looks like you've got some cleaning to do over the winter. :D

You may have worn out the "neck". They tend to get egg shaped as the bearings wear. You will want to check that hole for roundness.

I'm with noskillz on this one. Looks out of focus to me too. Try a new u-joint in there, if it fits sloppy it's probably time to replace.

If there is no side to side play (only in and out...the best kind!) in the yoke then maybe I'm OK for a while?

Those u-joints have to fit SNUG or they won't be centered. You don't want a vibration there, next thing you know you are saying hello to your drive shaft as it comes through your floor. You could try it, but any vibration would be time to stop driving and go back to the drawing board.
