I'm doing the same on my 73 coupe. Took out the side pieces to paint them. Will be installing the carpet later. My problem is removing the shoulder seat belts themselves. The top of the bolt is goofy, you cant get a wrench on it because the bolt head is short. Only way is to get it from the bottom, it's a square nut, and of course its rusted and won't move. Any suggestions? Can't get a nut splitter on it, it's too tight in there. Would be a big job to drill it out. Hope this isn't thread hijacking.
