Default Battery to starter cable size?

anyone know the battery to starter cable size? should it be upgraded to better size? done a lsx swap, so running a 145 amp alternator

It is quite large, gauge 2, I believe. The cable that is usually upgraded for an alternator is the one from the starter to the alternator. I added a #6 wire (in parallel) when I installed my 140 amp alt.

Stock battery cables changed over the years. Early cars had thinner gauge and they had problems cranking. I think cables went through a few gauges over the years. I know they got beefier in '72. Here's my original '71 cable next to the '72 cable I replaced it with. With he '72 cables and a mini-starter my 454 cranks great, hot or cold.

Just curious. Do you have the original positive cable laying around that you could take a weight reading? Thanks.

ok guys thanks for info

ive got a 3 awg from alternator to the starter and got 2 battery cables to try, got a 1/0 and 000, but 1/0 sounds thats plenty big enough, changing the battery cable because adding a eletronic cut off switch for racing
