What Transmiision fluid

I run a 454 1970 with a 400 transmission what fluid is recommended?

Dexron. It's listed in your owner's manual.

Type F has more friction modifiers.

Bingo!...Ford type F is the best for a turbo 350/400. I ran Ford Type F back in my 73 Nova SS for many years from 78-90 and beat the crap out of that tranny when I was younger and it was still shifting perfectly at 168,000 miles when I sold that car in 1990. Put a stand alone double stack cooler in the grille outside of the radiator stock tranny cooler, change the fluid often and use Ford type F....trans will last forever.

Ford Type f was the recommended performance tranny fluid over Dexron going back to the 70's since it had more friction modifiers and better resistence to heat breakdown....
